Sacha Inchi
One of the best plant sources for essential fatty acids (omega 3, 6, 9)

Botanical Name:  Plukenetia volubilis
Habitat:  Native to Peruvian rainforests

General:  The plant is a perennial and grows to approximately 2 meters.  It has hearth shaped leaves with small, star-shaped fruits.  A highly nutritious oil is extracted from the dark seeds of the fruit.

Nutritional Information:  Sacha inchi provides high levels of essential fatty acids, including Omega 3's.   Consequently, it is sought after by vegetarians as there are few plant sources for these fatty acids.  It is also rich in vitamin A, iodine, and vitamin E.  It is also high in protein.   

 

Traditional uses have been for cardiovascular and cholesterol support, and maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.  It is also used as a topical moisturizer rich with emollients for skin and hair.
