General:  This is a small evergreen tree that grows to approximately 10 meters in height.  The most cultivated varieties produce a small, bright red fruit, whose taste is compared to that of the pomegranate.  It has been cultivated in China for over 2000 years for its versatile uses in food preparation.

Nutritional Information:  High in anthocyanins, early research suggests that this fruit may be beneficial for the immune and cardiovascular systems.
